Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller will chasing another Queensland Winter Racing Carnival Group 1 trophy when he saddles up the top three chances in the Group 1 $600,000 Jaguar Land Rover J.J. Atkins Plate (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Waller has already won two Group 1 races over the Brisbane Carnival at Doomben with Comin’ Through taking out the Group 1 $650,000 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup (2000m) and Youngstar winning the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m).

Fourteen two-year-olds make up the final field for the J.J. Atkins Plate with Waller to saddle up Lean Mean Machine (Corey Brown, barrier 9), Zousain (James McDonald, barrier 14), and The Autumn Sun (Kerrin McEvoy, barrier 6).

Last start Randwick winner The Autumn Sun has been installed the favourite for the J.J. Atkins Plate at $2.40 with Ladbrokes.com.au with Lean Mean Machine at $4.40 and Zousain at $7.50 the only other runners under the $10 mark.

Local chance Boomsara chased home Lean Mean Machine and Zousain when third in the Group 2 $250,000 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 26 and the Chris Munce trained colt has drawn in the middle of the field at barrier eight with Matthew McGillivray in the saddle again.

Munce is happy with the progress of Boomsara following his BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes run and said the Spirit Of Boom youngster galloped strongly during the week.

“He has really come on nicely,” Munce told Sky Racing.

“I probably left a little bit in the tank leading into the Sires but he is properly tuned up, he is a million per cent, his coat looks terrific and his gallop this morning (Tuesday) was very good.”

“Very happy with him going into the race.”

Boomsara is marked at $19 for the J.J. Atkins Plate at Ladbrokes.com.au.
