The Chris Waller trained Zousain has been cleared to run in the 2018 Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Waller notified Racing New South Wales stewards last week that Zousain was suffering from an elevated temperature, but after undergoing treatment, the Waller stable has reported back to stewards that the Zoustar colt has recovered and galloped strongly at Rosehill this morning.
Zousain will join his two stablemates Lean Mean Machine and The Autumn Sun in the final field of eleven for the Golden Rose Stakes and Racing New South Wales Stewards released the following statement today.
“Charlie Duckworth, representing trainer Chris Waller, advised Racing NSW Stewards that Zousain galloped 1000m this morning and was subject to an endoscopic examination post-work. The endoscopic examination revealed no abnormalities and a blood test for health assessment performed yesterday returned pleasing results. Zousain will accept for the Golden Rose to be conducted this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens.”
Zousain has drawn barrier one in the Golden Rose Stakes and will be ridden again by James McDonald who was aboard the colt for his first up fourth to Lean Mean Machine in the Group 2 $200,000 The Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on September 8.
Tye Angland will stick with Lean Mean Machine who has drawn barrier seven while Waller’s third runner The Autumn Sun will jump from gate ten with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
The Autumn Sun is also fitter for one run back from a spell when third to Tarka in the Group 2 $200,000 The Daily Telegraph Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on September 8.
Jason Collett has been retained on Graff (barrier 4) who suffered his first defeat from four race starts when second to Lean Mean Machine in The Run To The Rose.
The Kris Lees trained Graff has been installed as the early favourite for the Golden Rose Stakes at $3.50 with Ladbrokes.com.au just ahead of The Autumn Sun at $4.50 and Lean Mean Machine at $6 while Zousain is the only other runner under the $10 mark at $8.
