The front running Written By kept his unbeaten Caulfield record intact with an all the way win in the Group 3 $350,000 Catanach’s Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) today.

Written By made it four wins from four starts at Caulfield and will now try his luck at Flemington when he heads there for the Group 1 $1m Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on the first day of the 2018 Melbourne Cup Carnival in two and a half weeks.

Trainer Grahame Begg said he would give Written By a look at the Flemington straight in a jump out next but expects the Written Tycoon colt will handle the track.

“The obvious target is going to the Coolmore in two and a half weeks time,” Begg said.

“He will have a jump out up the straight on Friday week at Flemington, just a little gallop up there. He has to have a workout somewhere so we may as well take him and give him a look at the straight and he will be spot on for Coolmore day.”

Winning jockey Jordan Childs let Written By stride to the front from barrier two in the small six horse field and even though it appeared that the colt was over working a little bit, Childs always had the race under control.

When challenged in the straight, Childs only had to lengthen the reins slightly and Written By ($1.65 favourite) went on to record a one and a quarter lengths win over the James Cummings trained Encryption ($8) who tried hard all the way down the straight.

Tony Nicconi ($11) chased Written By from the outset and battled on in the run to the line to finish in third place.

“He has a very high cruising speed,” Begg said.

“I said to Jordy before the race use it to your advantage. He drew well. Don’t be trying to drag him around.”

“He has a good understanding off the horse and lets him roll and his ability to be able to kick off a good speed and put it away turning into the straight and maintaining.”

Written By is now the winner of six of his seven starts with his only defeat being a fourth to Estijaab in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill during the 2018 Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Written By is now on the second line of betting at $4 with Ladbrokes.com.au for the Coolmore Stud Stakes behind the Chris Waller trained Zousain who heads the market order at $3.
