Churches, temples, synagogues and mosques , you name it we’ve visited them over the last few weeks. If running second and third was the new winning we would have been flying. A few of the naval gazers amongst us have been analysing everything and anything that moves. The trainer just concerned himself with the job in hand , training horses.
On Friday I informed him the experts had declared that Bel Sonic had trialled poorly and would struggle in what was his target race for the last three months. He bit his lip with me but called out the same experts pre race on tv. You could argue he was brave but his belief in this horse is unswerving .The horse is a quiet unassuming lad who likes to eat and chill out. His work suggests his ability but he is smart enough now to save his best for race day. He used to fire up race day , now he brings his chilled out demeanour to the track.
Onto Saturday and the tactics were to follow the favourite and nail it close to home. Regan delivered perfectly but a special word to Mick Walker who has done a lot of the foundation work heading into this run. The finishing burst was devastating and we start to dream again of where this boy can end up. A huge thank you to his loyal owners, to the team at Aquis what a job you guys did sending him back to us after his pre training . Short term goals are still to be locked in but the main Millions Day has to be on the radar. Long term we think he is as good as Bel Sprinter.
The old A team tag line was “I love it when a plan comes together “. As previously mentioned this was planned months ago and rare these long term dreams are delivered. To those who were part of the debate last week , we thank you for taking the bold and brave decision . Finally to all the staff at home a big thank you. You know what we have to unleash over the next 12 months and plenty more big day outs are on the horizon. At last it’s happy days again.
