Forty-one horses remain in contention for the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s premier sprint and trainer Toby Edmonds has no worries about Tyzone being allocated a spot in the eighteen horse field when final acceptances are taken next Wednesday.

“I wouldn’t say we are over the line (for a Stradbroke start) but it is looking pretty good and I am fairly confident we will be there,” Edmonds told Racenet.

“I think Tyzone is a real chance with the way the Stradbroke is likely to be run, he should get his opportunity to power home and have a shot at them late.”

Tyzone stormed home from near the tail of the field to win the Group 3 $140,000 Bernborough Ascot BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on May 18 and Edmonds can see the five year old repeating that effort in the Stradbroke Handicap with only 53kg on his back.

Tyzone is the winner of sixteen of his thirty-one starts and is listed at $12 at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Stradbroke Handicap.

The Tony Pike trained Kiwi sprinter The Bostonian commands the Stradbroke Handicap betting at $5 following his two Group 1 wins in the $800,000 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) at Doomben on May 11 and in the $700,000 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm a fortnight later.

The James Cummings trained Trekking chased home The Bostonian when third in the Kingsford-Smith Cup and is the second pick at $8 ahead of Morphettville Group 1 winners Despatch and Spright at $10 while Home Of The Brave shares the $12 mark with Tyzone.

Early betting for the 2019 Stradbroke Handicap at Ladbrokes.com.au: $5 The Bostonian, $8 Trekking, $10 Despatch, Spright, $12 Home Of The Brave, Tyzone, $13 Encryption, $15 Deploy, Viridine, Widgee Turf, $17 Dollar For Dollar, Endless Drama, Princess Posh, Victorem, $21 Con Te Partiro, Outback Barbie, Ringerdingding, Tactical Advantage, Tom Melbourne, $26 Irithea, Man Booker, Manuel, Material Man, Oregon’s Day, Streets Of Avalon, $34 I’m A Rippa, Violate, $41 Noble Boy, $51 or better the rest.
