Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Sunlight’s Golden Rose campaign is in turmoil after the filly has been forced out of Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 The Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill because of an elevated temperature.

Trainer Tony McEvoy informed Racing New South Wales Stewards that Sunlight would miss the very important lead up race for the Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 22.

Racing New South Wales Stewards told McEvoy that Sunlight will have to get a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again.

Racing New South released the following statement on their website today.

“Please be advised trainer Tony McEvoy has reported to Racing NSW Stewards that Sunlight will NOT be accepting for this Saturday’s races where she was nominated for the Run to the Rose at Rosehill Gardens (8th September) due to the filly having an elevated temperature.

“Mr McEvoy has been advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Sunlight racing again.”

Sunlight was the winner of the 2018 $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast in January and carried that good two year old form into the Sydney Autumn Carnival with two wins at Rosehill in the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) and in the Group 3 $175,000 Canadian Club Magic Night Stakes (1200m) before running third to Estijaab in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill.

The Zoustar filly resumed from a spell for a six lengths second to Nature Strip in the Listed $100,000 Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on July 28 but then bounced back to winning form in the Group 3 $150,000 Winslow Group Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 18.
