Estijaab took up the running in the early stages of the Silver Slipper Stakes, but Blake Shinn wasn’t happy with the early speed and he elected to take on the speed filly with Neutrality.

That set-up the race for Sunlight and she was able to fight-off Estijaab in the final stages to confirm her status as 2018 Golden Slipper Stakes favourite.

Calvin McEvoy, son of Tony McEvoy, was delighted with the 2018 Silver Slipper Stakes performance of Sunlight and he revealed that she will have one more start in the Magic Night Stakes before she heads to the 2018 Golden Slipper.

“This race was full of really classy horses and we will probably look back at this race in 12 months and see a few Group 1 winners,” McEvoy said.

“If she comes through this well, she will run in the Magic Night the week before the Golden Slipper.

“We will follow the same path as we did before the Magic Millions.

“She is effective on the seven day back-up.

“She acclimatized to Queensland really well and she has now acclimatized to Sydney really well.”

Estijaab may have been beaten in the Silver Slipper Stakes, but she lost no admirers with her tough effort and will still head to the 2018 Golden Slipper as one of the leading contenders.

Sunlight is now on top of the 2018 Golden Slipper betting market with Ladbrokes at quote of $4.40, while Estijaab has been $8 into 5.50.

The two fillies put a big gap on the rest of the Silver Slipper Stakes field and it was Godolphin-owned Gongs that rounded out the placings in third.
