The market suggested Hightail was the one to beat in Saturday’s Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas, and the Snowden-trained three-year-old did not disappoint.

In a fast run race over the 1200m at Aquis Park, the son of Written Tycoon settled three lengths off the lead in mid-field before working home late on the outside of The Odyssey to dive at the line.

In a similar fashion, punters came late for the Snowden sprinter backing him into $3.60 ahead of his second run back from a spell. Hightail returned to the races a fortnight ago winning first-up at Kensington over the 1250m, and always looked the one to beat after winning the Gosford Guineas last time in.

Hightail also had some form around the track and distance having run third in the 2YO Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast last year. Jockey Ryan Maloney, who jumped on board for the first time, navigated the gelding to perfection to make full use of his speed on the wide part of the track.

Hightail owns a nomination in next fortnight’s Group 1 The Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm where he remains a $19.00 chance in Ladbrokes’ market.

The Odyssey, who won at Eagle Farm back in December, is also nominated for the Stradbroke and is listed as a $51.00 chance.
