Cosmic Force’s Golden Slipper price has firmed into single figures after he demolished the rest of the field in the Group 3 $175,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill today.
The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Cosmic Force is now exempt from the ballot for the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill next week and is now a $7 chance with Ladbrokes.com.au in from $41 before his Pago Pago Stakes win.
Winning jockey James McDonald had a sustained look over his shoulder as Cosmic Force ($3.50 favourite) skimmed across the heavy 10 rated Rosehill surface is setting up a seven and a quarter lengths win over the Team Hawkes trained Born A Warrior ($7).
Team Snowden also saddled up the third and fourth placegetters Stronger ($11) and Autocratic ($21) with the stablemates Hightail ($5.50) in sixth and Famous in eighth.
Paul Snowden described Cosmic Force as a very tough juvenile and said that the Deep Field colt will have no trouble backing up next week in the Golden Slipper.
“It won’t be a problem. He is a very tough animal. He still didn’t get the right run today, he worked in the run, and you’ve seen what he did. If we can get the smother that we need and the right run in the race we are going to see a much better performance than we did today,” Paul Snowden said.
“It was just the over-racing in the early and middle stages just found us out late last time. Today we took our time coming across. It didn’t pan out the way we thought, three deep no cover is not ideal, but hopefully this rain stays around and we get another wet track next week cause like I say he will bounce off the walls this horse, he has a tough constitution and does very well around the stables. So there will be no dramas with backing him up this week.
“Hightail has excelled on wet tracks and he was struggling just trying to keep up with him.”
Sydney is forecast to have a another wet week so the prospect of Cosmic Force facing another rain affected track will fall right into his favour.
McDonald was very impressed with the winning effort of Cosmic Force but the Snowdens will have to look for another rider for Golden Slipper as the he is already committed to ride the James Cummings trained Tenley for the Godolphin Team.
