Trainer Jason Coyle will step last Saturday’s Summer Sprint winner Memes up in class and consider starting her in the Group 2 $200,000 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 3.

Memes recorded her sixth win from seventeen starts with a gutsy win in the $100,000 Summer Sprint (1000m) at Randwick on the weekend and the four year old mare has earned a chance to take on tougher company.

“She’s a fit horse that could probably try an Expressway Stakes at this stage,” Coyle said.

Apprentice Rachel King had Memes in the firing line from the outset and even though she scored her third win on a good rated track, Coyle is keen to find a rain affected surface to bring out the best in the Time Thief mare.

“She would have been a moral on a heavy track so if she can get a bit of rain coming into the autumn it would be perfect,” Coyle said.

“It was really gutsy because I thought she was going to be susceptible over 1000m. They loomed up to her but she dug deep with a light weight.

“She gets herself there quite naturally. There were a few concerns with her at the furlong when they were coming at her but she toughed it out well.”

Memes was having her first run back since finishing sixth to Invincible Gem in the Group 2 $200,000 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 5 but King was confident the mare had enough fitness to hold off the challengers.

“I still had plenty left,” King said.

“I didn’t hit her until the last furlong and I had a bit up my sleeve so it was pretty comfortable.

“She’s a deceptive horse. She doesn’t look like she’s got much but she keeps on finding. She’s got a big stride and she disheartens horses because they can’t get to her.”

Memes’ win in the Summer Sprint took her overall prizemoney earnings to $376,700 for her six wins, four seconds and four thirds from seventeen starts.
