The Godolphin stable has declared that Group 1 winner Impending is in great shape heading into Saturday’s Group 1 $700,000 Kirin Doomben 10,000 (1200m) at Doomben.

Impending was under the care of stand in trainer Darren Beadman when he won last year’s Group 1 $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben and has returned to Queensland this year with James Cummings at the helm for a win in the Group 2 $200,000 Hiflow Industries Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on April 28.

Stable foreman Paul Reid has been looking after Impending while campaigning in Brisbane and said that the Lonhro four year old has come through the Victory Stakes win in fine style.

“He is in great nick. He has come through his first up win very well and he should be very competitive Saturday,” Reid told Sky Racing.

The Doomben track has been rated a Heavy 8 on Wednesday morning after some rain fell earlier in the week but Reid said a rain affected surface would not bother Impending even though he is yet to win on a soft or a heavy track from five attempts.

“I don’t think that will worry him at all, he should be fine,” Reid said.

Impending only had two runs during the 2017 Spring Carnival in between his two Brisbane Winter Carnival campaigns for a second to In Her Time in the Listed $500,000 Sydney Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and a third behind Redzel and Terravista in the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington.

Impending is set to clash again with Redzel in the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.
