South Australian colt Dalasan has been given the visitor’s draw with a horror barrier in the 2019 Group 1 $2m Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Dalasan drew barrier eighteen in the original draw but will move into fifteen in the final sixteen horse field if all three emergencies fail to gain a start.

Co-trainer Leon Macdonald has put the blinkers on Dalason for the Caulfield Guineas and the Adelaide based Hall Of Fame trainer was happy with his work with the head gear on this morning.

But his mood was quickly dampened when the double-digit barrier number was turned over at this barrier draw function this morning.

“It is not good,” Macdonad, who trains in partnership with Andrew Gulyas, told racing.com.

“I suppose a barrier is a barrier. I did win the Toorak Handicap with Umrum from barrier seventeen so we can only hope for the best.”

Hugh Bowman takes over the reins from Raquel Clark and the high profile Sydney based jockey was aboard Dalasan this morning for an impressive workout with the blinkers on.

“He (Bowman) is probably one of the best in Australia, if not the best, and he will do him justice,.” Macdonald said.

“Blinkers were on and we thought he worked very very well. He has had a pretty faultless preparation right through, no problems. This is the first hiccup he has got so we are just hoping he can overcome it.”

“I think he will go to the 1600m that will suit him fine, the blinkers will probably straighten him up a little bit and he does come in at set weights too.”

“I love Caulfield racing and let’s hope we can do it justice on Saturday.”

Raquel Clark has been aboard Dalasan for five of his six race starts and includes his win in the Group 2 $200,000 Danehill Stakes (1200m) down the Flemington straight on September 14 as well as his last start second to Alligator Blood in the Group 3 $250,000 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 29.

Dalasan will again be up against Alligator Blood who also drew a double-digit barrier in the original draw and will jump from gate ten with Ryan Maloney if all the emergencies fail to gain a start.

The David Jolly trained Roccabascerana drew the rails with Linda Meech in the saddle while the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Creator drew the outside gate.
