Former West Australian trained mare Cool Passion is ready to embrace her Group 1 challenge when she lines up in the $600,000 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Cool Passion has recovered from a hoof abscess that saw her scratched from the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 16 and beat her stablemate Sunlight in a 1000m barrier trial at Gawler last Friday.
Trainer Tony McEvoy was happy with Cool Passion’s trial performance and was convinced that the seven year old mare had overcome her hoof problem and is ready to take on the fillies and mares at Group 1 level.
“She’s trialled nicely and has bounced back well from the foot abscess that saw her scratched last time,’’ McEvoy told The Advertiser.
“I’m really happy with her.’’
Cool Passion’s only appearance at Group 1 level resulted in a last start fourth to Trapeze Artist in the $500,000 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on March 9.
The Not A Single Doubt mare has been racing on top of the speed in her recent outings and jockey Barend Vorster will be bale to have her in a prominent position again from barrier four in the fifteen horse Robert Sangster Stakes field.
Cool Passion is on the second line of betting at $6 at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Robert Sangster Stakes behind the Garry Frazer trained $4 favourite Spright.
Spright likes to settle well off the pace and Damien Oliver will have to the ride the mare for luck again after drawing the extreme outside barrier.
Two starts back Spright ran on from the rear of the field to run second to Sunlight in the Group 1 $500,000 Keogh Homes William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley on March 22 and then finished seventh as favourite to White Moss in the Group 2 $300,000 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Day Two of The Championships on April 13.
The Robert Sangster Stakes is developing into a wide open betting race with Thrillster ($6.50), Jamaican Rain ($7), Anjana ($8) and Lady Cosmology ($9.50) all under the $10 mark.
