Late afternoon storms and heavy rainfall caused the abandonment of the last four races on the Doomben card on Friday with both the Phelan Ready Stakes and Calaway Gal Stakes rescheduled for Wednesday December 18.

Doomben was lashed with 104mm of rain in just 30 minutes on Friday afternoon leading the Brisbane Racing Club to call off the action of their twilight meet after the running of the third.

The wild storm flooded the parade and betting rings, winners’ enclosure and the car parks at Doomben Racecourse as well as the track itself.

The two Black Type events that were scheduled for the meeting – the Listed $125,000 The Spirit Of Boom Phelan Ready Stakes (1100m) and the Listed $125,000 Boomer Bloodstock Calaway Gal Stakes (1100m) – have been transferred to the club’s scheduled mid-week Wednesday race meeting.

The two juvenile features are key lead-ups to next month’s Restricted Listed $2 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 11.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Rathlin, runner-up in Ballarat’s $250,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m), was favourite for the Phelan Ready Stakes.

The Victorian training duo of Maher & Eustace were also to have saddled-up the punters’ pick in the fillies’ equivalent with Away Game tipped to win at her second career start.

This year’s Melbourne Cup winning hoop Craig Williams was booked to ride the stablemates.

Current markets on the 2020 Magic Millions 2YO Classic through Ladbrokes.com.au have Rathlin at $21 and Away Game at $41.

The first two past the post in last Thursday’s $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m) lead the all-in Magic Millions Gold Coast Classic odds.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained winner Farnan is the current $5.50 favourite and the runner-up Every Rose for the flying Mark Newnham follows at $6.50.
