Boss gave Kolding the perfect run up on the pace and with his lightweight of 50.5kg was able to hold off the determined finish of the Kiwi Te Akau Shark who had to carry 54.5kg.

Waller also claimed third place with Star Of The Seas ($13) while Gem Song ($11) ran home for fourth.

The top weight Dreamforce had to do some work early to cross over from a the outside gate to find the front but the initial effort took its toll and the John Thompson trained seven year old faded in the run home to finish seventeenth in the nineteen horse Epsom field.

Kolding and Te Akau Shark we sent out as the equal $5.50 favourites and there was only a nose separating them when the judge called a halt to proceedings.

The win of Kolding gave Waller five wins for the day and his second Group 1 for the day after Funstar took out the Group 1 $500,000 Darley Flight Stakes (1600m) earlier.

Waller will now map out a program for Kolding for the rest of the Spring Carnival and his options include the Group 1 $5m Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 26 or the $7.5m Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on November 2.

“He is a Golden Eagle contender, so it will either be that or the Cox Plate,” Waller said.

“He will probably have to be a little bit more dominant to win a Cox Plate but we will give it some thought. As well as the Golden Eagle on his home track, big prizemoney and obviously it is a new race that we have to be thinking about now.”

I’ve got a great team behind me. We’ve grown with numbers. They work tirelessly behind the scenes. I can’t thank them enough around the country. Many people put in what we finally see on race day.”
