An impressive win by promising sprinter Sesar in the Saturday’s Group 3 $160,000 The Big Screen Company Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield will enhance his chances of filling a slot in The Everest.

Four slots remain vacant for the $14m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 19 and co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said the Sesar could put himself in the running with an impressive showing in the Bletchingly Stakes.

“This race will tell us about where this horse is going,” Hawkes told the Herald Sun.

“If he came out and ran well, you’d look at races like The Everest and/or the Memsie.

“He’s obviously to come out and do it, but if he does, then it opens a few doors.”

The John, Wayne and Michael Hawkes trained Sesar has only had one run for the stable for a win in the $125,000 Moët & Chandon Imperial Winter Dash (1200m) at Randwick on June 22 and Wayne Hawkes said the stable is also expecting another bold showing.

“We’ve only had him for one start, and we’re about to give him a second start,” Hawkes said.

“The race will tell us a lot more about him.”

Michael Walker talks over the reins from Winter Dash winning jockey Christian Reith on Sesar who has drawn barrier three in the nine horse Bletchingly Stakes field and Hawkes said that the rain affected Caulfield track that was rated a soft 5 on race eve won’t pose a problem.

“He doesn’t mind it wet, but he goes just as good on firm,” Hawkes said.

“He’s a nice horse. We’re still learning about him.”

Sesar was the winner of two of his seven race starts when prepared by Steven O’Dea who saddled him up for two wins in the Group 3 $125,000 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast during the 2018 Queensland Winter Carnival as a two year old and in the Group 2 $300,000 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick at the beginning of his three year old season during the 2018 Sydney Spring Carnival.

Early betting for the Bletchingly Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au has Sesar as the odds on $1.80 favourite well ahead of his nearest rival noted wet tracker Jungle Edge at $4.80.
