The three year old fillies take centre stage at Flemington today with the running of the newly named 2017 Group 1 $1m Kennedy Oaks (2500m) and horse.racing.com.au will post the results of all nine races on the third day of the four day Melbourne Cup carnival.

As well as the Kennedy Oaks that will feature the odds on favourite Aloisia, the fillies Classic is well supported by the Group 3 $200,000 TCL TV Stakes (1400m) for the open class horses and the Group 3 $200,000 Kennedy Plate (1100m) for the sprinting fillies.

All Day Results for VRC Oaks Day at Flemington

Race 1 (12:15pm) $120,000 DrinkWise Plate (1700m)

The highly rated Linda Meech kicked off Ladies Day with a gem of a front running ride on Linguist to win the DrinkWise Plate for the fillies and mares. Meech had the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained Linguist ($7) quickly into a smooth rhythm out in front and the Helmet mare had plenty up her sleeve in the straight to score untroubled.

Runner up So Splendid ($7) was doing her best work over the concluding stages without threatening the winner with Winklemann ($18) filling third spot. The $4 favourite Sworn Evidence settled midfield but faaile to fire and missed a place.

Race 2 (12:55pm) $120,000 Twitter Trophy (1800m)

Prominent German trainer Andreas Wohler picked up some travelling expenses with Mr Garcia winning the BenchMark 90 Handicap. Kerrin McEvoy had Mr Garcia ($4.40 favourite) settled in fourth position just behind the leaders before winding up in the straight to beat the pacemaker Carraig Aonair ($17). Hogmanay ($6.50) ran on out wide to fill third spot. Wohler said that the Australian Bloodstock owned Mr Garcia will now stay in Australia and join his Melbourne Cup runner Red Cardinal under the care of Darren Weir.

Race 3 (1:35pm) $120,000 Off The Track Subzero Handicap (1400m) 

Four year old grey Tribal Wisdom flashed down the outside to win the Off The Track Subzero Handicap for the grey horses. The Mike Moroney trained Tribal Wisdom ($18) appreciated the solid tempo set by the front runner Valac and found the line hard to beat Harbour Grey ($13) with Powerline ($12) finishing third. Race favourtite Urban Ruler ($3.80) joined in at the 250m mark but missed a place in the end.
