Group 1 winning filly Alizee returned to the race track with a gutsy first up win in the Group 2 $200,000 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.

Alizee ($2.15 favourite) with Glyn Schofield in the saddle, might not have won by a commanding margin, but the half head winning margin over Shumookh ($7) was very satisfying to trainer James Cummings.

“She is a darling filly for us,” Cummings said.

“She is out Group 1 winning filly from the Spring.”

“She ran in a Thousand Guineas and we went to the well one more time and it is very hard to get horses like that back.”

“She is not the easiest horse to manage and she has taken a lot of energy for everybody to keep her held together and produce like that first up and with plenty of improvement up her sleeve.”

“You can tell by how excited I am that there is not only a big preparation ahead but regardless of what happens in the next few runs she has returned a winner of a prestigious race at Group 2 level and we are very satisfied that we have walked away with the Light Fingers.”

The third placegetter Trovill ran well above her $101 rating while Frolic ($14) was doing her best work at the finish to find fourth spot after being a conspicuous last at the 600m.

Cummings will now set Alizee for the newly elevated Group 1 for the three year old fillies, the $500,000 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick in a fortnight.

“She has returned stronger and she has more to offer. There is a Group 1 in a fortnight.” Cummings said.

Alizee shot into the spotlight during the 2017 Sydney Spring Carnival with two wins at Randwick in the Group 2 $200,000 McGrath Estate Agents Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and in the Group 1 $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) before running third to Aloisia in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.
