Tassie trainer Adam Trinder is waiting anxiously to see if Mystic Journey is given an All-Star Mile wildcard after the filly trounced her rivals in the 2019 Group 1 $1m Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington today.
Trinder made the trip form Tasmania with Mystic Journey who was sent out as the $4 favourite for the Australian Guineas and the Tassie horseman said that the filly would be well placed to run in the $5m All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington in a fortnight.
“We will see what transpires in the next forty-eight hours but we would be hopeful that she pulls up alright, which I trust she would, I would like to give her an opportunity in that race,” Trinder said.
“She is a fantastic filly. Once she got through I knew she would be there for him (jockey Anthony Darmanin) and she was.”
Trinder has now a got a bargain basement buy in his stable after purchasing Mystic Journey for $11,000 at the Tasmanian Yearling Sales.
“We thought she was a lovely cheap little filly and would go out and do a job for us and not in our wildest dreams did we think that job would be a Group 1.”
Winning jockey Anthony Darmanin settled Mystic Journey just ahead of midfield and waited his time in the straight before squeezing in between The Inevitable and the leader and runner up Hawkshot ($7) to record a two and a quarter lengths win with the well fancied Amphitrite ($4.20) running home for third.
