This is a very open Caulfield Cup – as it always is – and that is reflected in our betting tips as we are looking for horses wider in the market that represent value at their current prices.

Our 2017 Caulfield Cup tips can be found below!

1st

#2 Marmelo ($16)

The Melbourne Cup is the main target for Marmelo, but he is a very talented stayer that can’t be ruled out in the Caulfield Cup. His form in France is outstanding and he won the Prix Kergorlay in his last start before coming to Australia, which has proven to be a very strong form reference for both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne. He has the benefit of Hugh Bowman in the saddle and is well and truly over the odds at his current price.

2nd

#11  Ventura Storm ($11)

Ventura Storm finished second behind Winx in the Turnbull Stakes and he has had an excellent platform for the Caulfield Cup. He has taken a step forward each time that he has been seen at the races this preparation and he should relish the step-up to 2400 metres, which is a distance which he thrived over in Europe. He will get the run of the race with Damien Oliver in the saddle and he should be in the finish.

3rd

#8 Wicklow Brave ($51)

Wicklow Brave may be getting up there in years, but his Caulfield Cup lead-up form has been much better than his current price suggests. He won the Champion Hurdle at Punchestown earlier this year and he ran well in races like Curragh Cup, Goodwood Cup and the the Irish St Leger. Willie Mullins has had plenty of success in Australia in the past and he is worth a gamble at the big price.

4th

#12 Hardham ($51)

Hardham is a horse that does struggle for consistency, but he is capable of a high-rating performance on his day. He was outstanding when he stepped up to 2400 metres for the Australian Derby in the Autumn and the rise in trip may be what he needs to produce his best form.
