Trainer Lindsey Smith can’t see Trap For Fools losing his dynamic form after making it four wins in a row with his last start victory in the Listed $100,000 Magic Millions- Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) at Ascot on November 25 and can see him progressing to the Group 2 $500,000 Perth Cup (2400m) at Ascot on January 1.

The Poet’s Choice four year old hasn’t been beaten since winning a 2200m BenchMark 72+ Handicap at Ascot on October 28.

“He’s like a merry-go-round. He just keeps going around,” Smith told The West Australian.

“It wasn’t my intention to get this far and the first time he shows he’s had enough, he’ll go to the paddock.

“But he hasn’t indicated he’s trained off. He’s been working with Black Heart Bart and he’s worked fairly good alongside him. His work indicates he’ll go well again.”

Hong Kong based jockey Douglas Whyte will again be aboard Trap For Fools who drew the outside barrier in the nine horse field but Smith said the gelding’s lightweight will compensate the wide gate.

“He’s got no weight and there aren’t a lot of horses in it, so the barrier won’t be an issue,” Smith said.

Trap For Fools has been installed as the $2.25 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au for the G.A. Towton Cup ahead of Damien Oliver’s mount Falcon Crest at $2.80.

The Grant and Alana Williams trained Falcon Crest was runner up to Trap For Fools in the Tattersall’s Cup and meets the Lindsey Smith trained gelding 2kg better in the weights in the G.A. Towton Cup.
