Unbeaten colt I Am Immortal has firmed in the betting for the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) after an all the way win in the Group 3 $200,000 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (1100m) at Caulfield today.

Bookies at Ladbrokes.com.au have wound I Am Immortal in from $9 to be at $6 on the third line of betting for the Group 1 for the two year olds at Caulfield in a fortnight.
The Anthony Freedman trained I Am Immortal show his customary speed out of the barriers and winning jockey Ben Melham had to try to keep the I Am Invincible colt travelling smoothly as he has a tendency to over race.
Melham was able to hold the $2.50 favourite together and he had enough left in the straight to hold off the fast approaching challengers over the concluding stages.
The Mick Price trained first starter Shotmaker ($8.50) showed that he could be also be a force in the Blue Diamond Stakes with an impressive debut second while Hawker Hurricane ($11) was a close up third.
Stable representative Sam Freedman was happy with the winning effort and said that I Am Immortal will now head to the Blue Diamond Stakes.
“He is a tough horse and found when they came to him,” Sam Freedman said.
“Whatever gate he draws he has got speed in the first fifty metres to get himself across. He is going to be right there in the Blue Diamond.”
“There is probably a little bit of improvement out of this to come hand hopefully can peak in to weeks.”
Caulfield trainer Mick Price said that the runner up Shotmaker will also be lining up in the Blue Diamond Stakes in a fortnight.
