Godolphin’s veteran warhorse Hartnell has drawn lucky number seven in the barrier draw for the 2019 Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on Day One of The Championships on Saturday.

Hartnell is one of two runners that will carry the Godolphin royal blue colours in the Doncaster Mile with trainer James Cummings also saddling up his classy mare Alizee who has drawn gate twelve in the original field of twenty plus four emergencies.

Hugh Bowman takes the ride on Hartnell who will carry the top weight of 58kg while Blake Shinn takes the mount on Alizee who could move into gate ten if all of the emergencies fail to gain a start.

Hartnell and Alizee go into the Doncaster Mile on the back of a second and a third respectively in the $5m All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington on March 16.

Coolmore Classic winner Dixie Blossoms has drawn barrier fourteen but trainer Ron Quinton is not too concerned and the mare could jump from twelve if the emergencies don’t get a run.

“She is going into the race well. She has drawn fourteen, the bottom two emergencies have drawn inside that so all possibility she will start from twelve, which is probably not a bad gate,” Quinton said.

“She hasn’t gone backwards on this morning’s work and she looks a treat. She is doing all the right things in the stable.”

“We will be going into it confidently, a tough race of course. A Doncaster is not easy to win.”

Trainer Chris Waller has four runners in the final twenty horse field but two of the emergencies in Ringerdingding (barrier 8) and Seaway (barrier 11) and they have drawn all across the board.

I Am Serious with Hong Kong based jockey Karis Teetan to ride has drawn the inside gate while Unforgotten with Kerrin McEvoy aboard came up with gate eighteen but could move in two spots.

Craig Williams’ mount Shillelagh drew in close at three while the last of the Waller runners Life Less Ordinary with Corey Brown in the saddle has drawn middle of the road at ten.
