There are still four slots available for The Everest (1200m) at Randwick and an eye-catching performance on Friday could catch the attention of the remaining slot holders and give Vega Magic a third attempt at the $14m sprint on October 19.

“He went around in a hot trial and they ran one of the quickest times of the morning,” Lindsay Park co-trainer Ben Hayes told the Herald Sun.

“He finished with the bunch.

“It was only his first trial so he wasn’t asked to do too much and he’s come through the trial well.

“We plan to trial him down the straight with the Aurie’s Star (on August 10) in mind.”

The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig are planning on opening Vega Magic Spring Carnival campaign in the Group 3 $160,000 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on August 10.

Vega Magic was runner up to Redzel in the first running of The Everest in 2017 and then last year failed to beat a runner home on a heavy track when twelfth to Redzel again.

The gun sprinter’s latest win was twelve months ago in the Group 3 $150,000 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield but the big chestnut has failed to fill the placings at three runs since.

Vega Magic only had one run during the 2019 Sydney Autumn Carnival and was sent for a break after finishing tenth of eleven behind Santa Ana Lane in the Group 1 $2.5m Aquis T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Day One of The Championships on April 6.
