Speedy colt Farnan rocketed to the top of the betting for the 2020 $2m The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11 with a brilliant win at Wyong on Thursday.

Farnan, above winning the Magic Millions Wyong 2yo Classic, is the new favourite for the 2020m Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the Gold Coast.

Farnan, above winning the Magic Millions Wyong 2yo Classic, is the new favourite for the 2020m Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the Gold Coast.

The well backed Farnan ($2.90) was able to out sprint the $2.35 favourite Every Rose to record a one and a quarter lengths win in the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2yo Classic (1100m) and is now the $5.50 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

Winning jockey Tim Clark had Farnan quickly into stride from the outside gate in the six horse Wyong 2yo Classic field and had the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt travelling well outside of the leader Time For Peace.

Clark let Farnan slide to the lead on the home and even though Every Rose gave chase, the favourite was unable to make up the gap and had to settle for the runner’s up cheque.

“He broke brilliantly and he was able to settle for Tim during the run. He moved up when he needed to and showed a good turn of foot,” co-trainer Adrian Bott said.

“Like all those good young horses and the good colts in particular, he’s got a great attitude.

“We kept him nice and fresh between runs getting here today and it’s good to see him take that next step.”

“We’ve still got a long while to go to get up to the Gold Coast so we’ll see if he needs another run yet or not.”

Trainer Mark Newnham said that he had plenty of time until the Magic Millions 2yo Classic to have Every Rose in prime condition after jockey Rachel King reported that the filly peaked on her run over the last 50m.

“She paraded quite big and five weeks from the grand final, I think I’ve got enough room to move to find the improvement that she needs,” Newnham said

“Rachel (King) thought she had the leader covered when she turned for home and just blew out the last 50.”

Every Rose is still in contention in the betting for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic and is on the second line of betting at $6.50 ahead of the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Stellar Pauline at $9.
