Last Saturday’s Grand Prix Stakes runner up Angel Of Heaven is a big firmer in the betting for the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben this weekend.

Betting at Ladbrokes.com.au has seen Angel Of Heaven’s price tumble in from $12 to $9.50 since the final acceptances were taken on Wednesday and trainer Kris Lees can see the filly getting another soft run after drawing barrier three in the capacity sixteen horse field.

Angel Of Heaven had the rails draw last start and never left the fence when second to the all the way winner Fun Fact in the Group 3 $150,000 Mullins Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

“But she ran really well on Saturday, I think she’ll handle the back-up and most importantly for her she’s got that good draw,” Lees told AAP.

Angel Of Heaven will be lining up for her sixth start this preparation and has showed marked improvement since winning an 1890m BenchMark 64 Handicap at Newcastle two start before putting in claims for a Queensland Oaks berth with her second in the Grand Prix Stakes.

Lees will also saddle up $8.50 chance Aliferous in the Queensland Oaks and is a little concerned about her chances after the filly drew an awkward barrier in the original draw and admits that she will need plenty of luck.

Aliferous drew gate thirteen but will move in two places if all of the four emergencies fail to gain a start.

“It’s a bit of an awkward gate for her so she just needs a bit of luck,” Lees said.

“Her lead-up run was terrific and she’s going there in good order.”

Lady Cassidy replaces Tommy Berry on Angel Of Heaven while Brendon Avdulla has picked up the ride on Aliferous, taking over the reins from Jason Collett.

Lees has the possibility of having four Queensland Oaks runners if second and third emergencies Itz Lily and Grand Bouquet get a late call up.

The David Brideoake trained Princess Jenni is the short priced favourite at $2.60 and looks the obvious one to beat after winning the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on May 4.
