Our Hard Spun mare MARYMOUNT LASS opened the Dyer Racing account for 2020 at Hanging Rock on New Year’s Day with a win in The Bendigo Club BM52 1800m at our ‘other local’ track, Hanging Rock. The 5YO mare was bred and raised at nearby Miranda Park, and currently has a 3YO half-brother (by break-out sire Magnus) in work at Marymount Stables with some shares still available.

It was a happy reunion for jockey John Keating, who partnered the mare in her very first start at Kyneton back in February 2018.

“I was impressed with her effort,” said Keating, “She had to work a bit early to maintain the lead but relaxed into a lovely rhythm but was still willing to quicken each time I asked her to go up a gear. I was very pleased with how she got to the line, she had her opposition easily covered.”

The field of nine covered the 1800m distance in a time of 1:53.83 and her winning margin was a comfortable 0.2L from second place-getter Press Release (Mulder-Cuneen).

Elsewhere on the card, Honour The Work and The Snooty Fox both had solid Victorian debuts, collecting a cheque in their respective sprint trips.
